The Whale Resort offers several different options. We have our standard weekly vacation rental package. All of our daily amenities such as daily cleaning services and 24/7 concierge services are included in the weekly rental price. Seasonal rates vary, depending on when you choose to travel. Our chef services and transportation services are optional, and always available to our guests at an additional charge.
If you prefer to cook for yourselves, and many of our guests do, our kitchen is fully equipped with everything you would expect to have in your own kitchen. It is large and easy to enjoy each other socially while preparing your fun feast for the night. Puerto Jimenez offers a large grocery store with almost every item and ingredient you would expect to find in any US grocery. Our concierge can help you or even do your shopping for you.
We also offer optional chef services. We have our own in-house chef and he’s available almost 24/7. He’s a gourmet chef with 3 years of culinary school and there isn’t anything he can’t prepare. We don’t limit him or our guests to a menu, but you can have confidence in the quality and variety of meals in store for you. We don’t hold back. We will prepare a lot of different types of seafood, and of course lots of fish. Expect lots of fruit and vegetable dishes, different types of Costarican cuisine, and plenty of good desserts. Any special requests from our guests are always welcome. I can promise you will never be hungry. Every night will be fun with anticipation and we try to make every meal a part of your experience.
Our lodge is only minutes away form the Puerto Jimenez airport and there are several rental car companies in walking distance. If you don’t want to go through the hassle of renting a car, or finding your way around through your stay, we also offer an optional daily transportation service that includes our English speaking guide. Our vehicles are new and air-conditioned, spacious, and comfortable. You might have a daily trip to go on a tour, or an occasional trip into town to shop or hang out for an afternoon at one of our casual beach bars, but some days you want need to drive anywhere. The Whale Resort is on the beach, so many water tours you choose provide pick up on our beach, so no trips to the pier are needed. We offer our transportation services to provide convenience, and in the long run a cost savings too. Economy size rental cars start at about $100 per day once insurance is included. Most guests prefer a less complicated vacation and we have found that you will most likely spend less and have more comfort when we do the driving for you.

Personal Pickup at our beach – You will walk out to your boat in the warm tropical waters right off your beach. Once aboard, you will be welcomed with Guanabana juice and provided with informative narratives of the Golfo Dulce and its wonders. You will join us while we search for dolphins, whales, manta rays, sea turtles, schooling fish and sea birds.
We will take you across the Golfo Dulce to the Gulfs lush, rugged Eastern Shore – Piedras Blancas National Park, this is the country’s least visited National Park and is accessible by boat only. Mid-morning we will stop at Finca Saladero, where you will go ashore and join Harvey and Susan for a guided hike through their tropical gardens and then up into Primary Rainforest where you will see huge hardwood trees with massive root structures and vines while learning about the different levels of primary rainforest and their importance for our survival. Look for animals, insects and birds while learning of the diversity and symbiotic relationships between plants and animals. As you end your hike back down on the beach you can participate in learning how to de-husk, open and scrape out a coconut to enjoy the fresh coconut and juice.
You will then enjoy a delightful beachside lunch made with ingredients grown on the finca and homemade natural juices – araza, cas, tamarindo or lemongrass tea before boarding the boat and heading back down the coast with a stop at one of our reefs for snorkeling, swimming and experiencing “planeboarding”, the unique experience of flying in and under the water. You will then be offered fresh local fruit and cookies as we return you back to the beach mid-afternoon. While on the boat you will be able to enjoy sitting out over the water as we run with the dolphins that live in our bay year round. Don’t worry, our boat has a canopy for sun protection, as well as freshwater rinse.
