Authentic and Serene. A Perfect Chillin’ Out Place

We stayed here for a week and loved it. The area surrounding the home is non-touristy, natural, serene, and private, situated amidst the tropical forest and along the shoreline. The home is newly renovated, tastefully decorated, secure, and very comfortable for a family to spread out, hang out, and enjoy. The pool and huge patio set up is perfect for family barbecues and hanging out day or night. We felt so pampered having the concierge available as our shopper, driver, cook, tour guide, and with the additional housekeeper and chef. (We went home with clean laundry neatly folded!) Leading up to the trip, Mike and Barb were a wonderful resource for us, so accommodating and informative, going the extra mile to help us with flights, answer all our questions, make sure we had what we needed upon arrival, offering their help and guidance along the way. They really helped make us feel at home. During your stay, consider the following activities: going on the boat excursion to Golfo Dulce; having the at home massage/spa (have you ever had a massage on your own private balcony while listening to birds and monkeys and frogs?); going for the most delicious pizza — right in town; going horseback riding through town and to the ocean; going zip lining through the tropical forest; drinking coconut water — straight from the coconut (hello, organic!); sitting on the balcony with your coffee and binoculars, watching birds and monkeys in their natural habitat; having Jennie and Tomas prepare an authentic “tico-style’ dinner. Overall, we had an awesome and memorable family vacation at this beautiful home surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of tropical forest and authentic Costa Rican culture. Thank you, Mike, Barb, Tomas and Jennie!

Paradise Found!

We stayed here in the beginning of March with our 2 children (20 months and 3 &1/2) and our good friends with their 2 year old. We had such an amazing time and the house was absolutely perfect for all ages. There was plenty of room for 4 adults and 3 little girls. The master bedroom was phenomenal, the master bath was perfect! We definitely will be returning to this house. We have to thank Mike and Barb from the bottom of our hearts for saving our first family vacation. Another property we had rented was falsely advertised and we had to leave to salvage the rest of our vacation and keep our kids safe. When we spoke to Mike and Barb they were quick to accommodate us and alter their own vacation so that we could stay at the Whale House and relax and enjoy the remainder of our vacation. Raoul met us and took us to the house and took care of anything we needed or desired. The house itself is beyond amazing! There is the beautiful beach which is shallow for the little ones, tide pools to explore, gorgeous shores to walk and look for shells and jaw dropping scenery where jungle meets ocean. The jungle paths on the property are fun to walk and see the wildlife, the kids loved seeing the monkeys and feeding them. We saw lizards, Macaws, Toucans, Howler Monkeys, Titi monkeys, Pelicans, Butterflies, Hawks, and various other animals on the property. There also is plenty of fruit trees, flowers and botanicals that we loved exploring and even picked some ginger and oranges to cook with one night. There was so much to do on site that we did not leave for any other excursions. We did travel to Puerto Jimenez for groceries which is very close by and for dinner at a great Seafood place by the ocean. The town had everything you could need and Raoul was happy to show us around. Raoul was a top notch concierge who made us feel at home and was simply amazing. He even delivered us pizza one night and it was hands down the best thin crust pizza we have ever had. We travelled here all the way from Ottawa (our Friends Toronto) Canada. it was worth the trek. We wanted to drive from San Jose and see the scenery which was beautiful but for those not as adventurous you can fly Sansa from San Jose airport right into Puerto Jimenez. We felt completely safe here and driving the 6 & 1/2 hours back to San Jose was smooth driving along the new paved highway that runs along the coast. We wish we had booked our entire 2 week stay here! Thank you Mike and Barb!

Best in the Osa!!!

We just got back from an amazing Costa Rican adventure with our three kids, 13, 11, and 8. My husband and I have been to the Osa pennisula 4 times but this was the first trip with the kids so we decided to rent a house. We had the most wonderful time at the Whale Resort! It definitely exceeded our expectations! This is a gem of a place with the best ambiance around. The property is amazing, the pool was so nice if you wanted to cool off in the fresh water instead of the ocean. The ocean was such a fun place to hang out too, SO warm. There is a cool little river flowing out to the ocean from the property and the water is really shallow for quite a ways out. The tides coming in and out were really cool to watch too. There is a balcony all along the second floor of the house that we sat on to have our coffee every morning and watched the ocean waves, the toucans, the macaws and the monkeys! And the king size bed in the upstairs bedroom was so comfy! I want to buy one of those for my home it was such a great night sleep! The trails through the property were cool to walk as well. The trees are so beautiful and the wildlife is abundant. We felt very safe and taken care of by both the caretaker, Ceaser, who lives on the property with his wife and his son, and their concierge Raoul who met us right when we got into “town” to guide us down to the beach house. He also helped us arrange our canopy zip lining adventure and showed us around the town of Puerto Jimenez which is about 20 min away. I was a little nervous about sending money, just because I am very careful about how I pay people, but I sent it to Michael’s bank account and everything turned out perfect! Could not be happier!!! If you have any specific questions, please ask! I am happy to give a reference to anyone wanting to stay there! We all had so much fun and were never bored! Thank you Fox’s for sharing your bit of paradise with us! Your property and the people you employ to take care of your guests are TOP NOTCH!!! Jon, Lisa and family

Our incredible La Resort Ballena Vacation!!

All the comforts of home and secluded privacy. It felt like we were on our own private fantasy island. Monkeys eating out of our hands, Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, Orchids, there is even a Tilapia farm on the property, so if you wanted to catch your own fish, they will cook it up for you! This whole place was mind blowing. Hard to put it in to words. Magical. Just sitting here writing this review is taking me back, and giving me that blissful feeling all over again. Enough said, already planning for 2015.

The Whale Resort

I am recommending “La Resort Ballena” as a fabulous destination vacation for a family/friends with or without children. The beach was perfect because it was a great swimmers beach, no under current, very calm, safe, and shallow for the kids. The backyard pool area was perfect for everyone to hang out, in and out of the pool, because it was all right there with plenty of patio chairs and tables. There was even a nice big gas grill for cooking out. I can’t think of anything this place didn’t have to offer. Our group had a blast! We even had a night time beach party and went swimming in the ocean under the full moon. What a rush! All you could see were thousands of beaming stars! Jay – Texas

Heaven on earth

What a wonderful vacation home! Highly recommended for families. Nice pool, tranquil ambiance, and a great beach. Near to groceries. Great kitchen fully equipped for cooking, and an excellent top of the line grill near the pool. Snorkeling right off beach was fantastic. The home was clean, and well set up great for a vacation property. Complete privacy with gated parking. It was like, once the gates were closed, we were locking the rest of the world out. All the bedrooms were large, especially the master! There were great ocean views from everywhere in the house. There were ample beach towels, linens, books, condiments, spices, pool toys, and beach toys. Daily maid services. Daily breakfast included. In fact, it would behoove you to check on the condiments and spices (before shopping) to make sure you are not doubling up. Loved having the beach umbrella. The owners, Mike and Barb were wonderful to work with. They would help with any arrangements, but we always had Raoul too, “The Magic Main” concierge. He made all of our rental car arrangements, and helped get our Sansa flights scheduled for us, and anything else we needed! I can’t praise this house enough. It was truly paradise – Heaven on Earth!

Incredible location, the perfect vacation!

I’ve had a lot of cool vacations but this one took the cake. Nothing like lifting your head from the pillow and all you see is the water. The surroundings were invigorating, but felt very relaxing too. I was swimming and watching dolphins at the same time. It was kind of like Gilligan’s Island with A/C, daily cleaning services, and a chef! Needless to say, the fish was VERY fresh!

Loved this house!!

We’ve been to Costa Rica before but this was our first trip to the Osa. WOW the wildlife was incredible and we never had to leave the house to see it. This was the first time we ever stayed directly on the beach, sooo fortunate to find La Resort Ballena. This house was amazing. You could tell that it has been newly renovated – everything was brand new and so fresh and clean. On the property there were walking trails with all different kinds of Heliconia. At first it was hard to do anything but sit and stare. We had monkeys, toucans, and scarlet macaws in our backyard every day. The question isn’t if we’re going back, it’s for how long can we stay because a week wasn’t long enough!!!
